Time is passing quickly. A recent Facebook post said, “I just got out of sixth grade, and now I’m already a grandma!” This quote may seem humorous to some, but in some ways, I relate, and this makes me sad. Where did the years go? Another observation says, “The days may go by slowly, but the years go by quickly.” This too is true.
Seems like yesterday when I frolicked in the living room with my four children on a cold winter’s night. “Let me ride on your back daddy,” said my oldest daughter, now 43. It can’t be possible! Just yesterday, I sat with my four-year-old son, my oldest boy, watching him struggle to tie his shoes. We sat there for two hours before he finally learned. Now, he’s an entrepreneur who makes money doing things I never imagined!
I have a 20-year-old granddaughter, who recently announced she was pursuing a career in politics, along with her Masters. What in the world! I just attended her high school graduation! What’s going on? Only days ago, seemingly, during the height of emotion, my then two-year-old Maddi with hands on her hips, sadly looked at me, unable to say, “Oh, my goodness.” Instead, she cried, “Oh, my goodsis, papaw!”
I must protest! Time is passing by all too quickly, along with the precious moments it brings. Maybe this is what the psalmist had in mind when he said, “Teach me to number my days, that I may apply my heart unto wisdom” (90:12 – NKJV). The Living Bible says, “Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.”
Life is a precious commodity. The days pass, never to be reclaimed. That’s why we must make each day count. Good time management skills are essential. Memories are one of God’s greatest gifts. May we wisely use our time to create good ones.
Whose life – loved one or friend – can you touch today? Stop what you’re doing this very moment and make it happen. Do you remember Snuffy Smith? He goes down in history for being an absolute nuisance to those around him, and is noted for often saying, “Time’s a wastin!” He may have used his days making others angry, but what he said remains true!
What priorities or attitudes do you need to change in order to maximize your time, and make the most of each day?
